Beach Volleyball Rules & Regulations
 RAIN POLICY                        
  • If it has rained earlier in the day prior to your game, but has stopped, and the courts have had a chance to dry, refs will attempt to run games if possible.
  • We do play in light rain, but if you are unsure you may call the Hershey SportZone at 905.615.3200 x 2895 after 5:30 pm, the day of, to see if games are running.
  • If games are cancelled due to rain/bad weather, make up matches will be added on to the end of the session on the same day and time.
 GAME RULES:   
  • In order to maximize playing time, game format will be timed. Best 2 of three sets or game up to  21 points (win by 2 points, cap at 23) or as time permits.  Each win is a point towards your overall standings.  Any time left is open for free play.
  • Games are self refereed and self scored.  Please call your own lifts, scoops and infractions (you may also question other players moves, the two teams must come to a decision about the call. If no mutual decision can be met, re-serve the ball)
  1. Official FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball) rules apply (note:  bolded rules are specific to Beach Volleyball)
  1. You can not block a serve
  2. Rotate in extra players
  3. Maximum of 5 serves in a row
  4. Stay off the net (if you do touch the net, it is the other teams ball)
  5. No crossing over the centre line
  6. If the ball lands on the line, it is in.
  7. Double hits are not allowed off the serve.  (Received ball must be a clean hit)
  8. Maximum of 3 hits per side – receiving or 3rd hit cannot be an overhand pass (ie. volley)
  9. You may use your feet
  10. A block is counted as a hit
  11. No lifting (open hand upward movement of the ball) or scooping (hand staying in contact with the ball as the arm moves in an upward position)
  12. No open hand tips
  • Rally point scoring (every serve is a point).
  • You must have 2 women on the court at all times, if you only have one woman then you must play with 4 players. (For 4's you must have 1 woman on the court.)
  • (6v6) If you play with 4 players, you have to play by 6's rules and one person is a back row player (ie. can not attack in front of the attack line), you must have at least 1 woman on the court.
  • (6v6)Teams with 5 members may choose to play or pull in a substitute player (must be registered in the program).
  • You may use subs for any game.  However, ALL PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED IN THE PROGRAM.
  • Games will start ON TIME.  If a team fails to show with a minimum of 4 team players (6v6)15 minutes after the game start time, it is an automatic default win to the other team.
  • Let serves are good (ie. if the ball hits the net and lands in then it counts.)
  • Participants are strongly recommended to remove jewellery, watches, etc.
  • Please report the score to the coordinator before you leave.
